Death of Jesus

Explaining the Quranic verse, (please note all references given count bismillah as the first verse) When Allah said, ‘O Jesus, I will cause thee to die (Mutawaffi) a natural death and will raise (Rafa) thee to Myself, and will clear thee from the charges of those who disbelieve, and will place those who follow thee above those who disbelieve, until the Day of Resurrection; then to Me shall be your return, and I will judge between you concerning that wherein you differ                                                    Holy Qur'an, Chapter 3, verse 56

   سیدناحضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سورۃآل عمران کی   آیت نمبر ۵۶ کا ترجمہ کرتے ہوئے فرماتے ہیں ۔ مُمِیْتُکَ ۔یعنی مُتَوَفِّیْکَ کا مطلب ہے میں تجھے موت دینے والا ہوں ۔

 سیدنا حضرت محمد مصطفیٰ ﷺ کی وفات کے بعد صحابہ کرام رضوان اللہ علیھم اجمعین کا سب سے پہلا اجماع   اسی بات پر ہوا تھا کہ تمام گزشتہ انبیاء بشمول حضرت عیسیٰ علیہ السلام وفات پا چکے ہیں ۔ چنانچہ حضرت عمر ؓ اور  کئی دیگرصحابہ نے شدت محبت اور غم کی وجہ سے حضور ﷺ کو وفات یافتہ تسلیم کرنے سے انکار کردیا۔ تب  حضرت ابوبکر ؓ تشریف لائے اور سورۃ آل عمران کی آیت نمبر 145 تلاوت فرمائی ۔

In Sahih al-Bukhari, there are recorded two different physical descriptions of Jesus a.s —  1. One applying to the past Messiah and  2. The other to the Messiah whose advent in the latter days is prophesied.

The Israelite Messiah, Jesus, died, as is made clear by the Holy Prophet Muhammad’s sayings. And the Messiah whose advent in the latter days has been prophesied by the Holy Prophet, was to be from the Muslim community, and  not  an Israelite prophet. This is borne out by the following  Hadith :

  Jesus a.s is dead like Moses a.s The Holy Prophet Muhammad said: لَوْ كَانَ مُوسَى وَعِيسَى حَيَّينِ لَمَا وَسِعَهُما إلا اتِّباعِي "Had Moses or Jesus been alive, they would have had to follow me." ( Al-Yawaqit wal-Jawahir,  p. 24;  Fath al-Bayan,  vol. 2, p. 246;  Tafsir Ibn Kathir,  under verse 81 of  Al Imran ) ترجمہ :۔اگر حضرت موسیٰ ؑ اور عیسیٰ ؑ زندہ ہوتے تو انہیں میری پیروی کے بغیرچارہ نہ ہوتا ۔ ( الیواقیت والجواہر جلد 2   صفحہ 20 از علامہ عبدالوہاب شعرانی   )  لَوْ کَانَ مُوْسیٰ وَ عِیْسیٰ حَیَّیْنِ لَمَا وَسِعَھُمَا اِلَّا اِتَّبَاعِیْ ترجمہ :۔ اگر حضرت موسیٰ ؑ اور عیسیٰ ؑ زندہ ہوتے تو انہیں میری پیروی کے بغیرچارہ نہ ہوتا ۔ (تفسیر القرآن العظیم  ۔الجزء الاول  صفحہ 378 ) More References "Had Jesus been alive he would have had to follow me."  ( Sharh Fiqh Akbar,  Egyptian ed., p. 99)  "If Moses and Jesus were alive, they would have but followed ...

حضرت عیسیٰ ؑ نے فلسطین سے ہجرت کی حضور ﷺ نے فرمایا ’’اللہ تعالیٰ نے حضرت عیسیٰ ؑ کی طرف وحی کی کہ اے عیسیٰ ایک جگہ سے دوسری جگہ کی طرف نقل مکانی کرتا رہ تاکہ کوئی تجھے پہچان کر دکھ نہ دے ‘‘   (کنزالعمال جلد 3صفحہ 158) The Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is reported to have said:- "Allah the Exalted revealed to Jesus, peace be upon him,- 'O Isa, continue to move from one place to another so that you might not be persecuted after being recognized." (Kanz-ul-ummal Chapter 1 in vol 3 page 158)  حضور ﷺ نے فرمایا حضرت عیسیٰ ؑ ہمیشہ سیروسیاحت کیا کرتے تھے اور جہاں شام پڑتی تھی جنگل کی سبزیاں کھاتے اور خالص پانی پیتے تھے (کنزالعمال جلد 2صفحہ 71)

About the Book ...   Kanz al-Ummal Read this hadith Online "Aishah (God be pleased with her) said that, in his illness in which he died, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: `Every year Gabriel used to repeat the Quran with me once, but this year he has done it twice. He has informed me that there is no prophet but he lives half as long as the one who preceded him. And he has told me that Jesus lived a hundred and twenty years, and I see that I am about to leave this world at sixty' "  (Hajaj  al-Kiramah, p.428; Kanz al-Ummal, vol. 6, p. 60,  from Hazrat Fatima; and  Mawahib al-Ladinya, vol. 1, p. 42).
